Joy Lai is a MASc student at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering.

Her background is in artificial intelligence, and her research now applies these methods in AgeTech to design ethical and practical technologies that support aging in place. Her current project, Remindful, explores how everyday digital reminder systems can be transformed into behavioral monitoring tools for people living with dementia. By integrating machine learning with co-design principles, Joy’s work aims to detect meaningful behavioral changes, reduce caregiver workload, and improve communication across home care teams.
