We provide an environment where volunteers are engaged, challenged and rewarded. If you’re looking for a hands-on volunteer opportunity with a leader in community health and want to make a positive difference in people’s lives, you belong at VHA Home HealthCare (VHA). Volunteering is a commitment which includes:

Training and ongoing support provided
Assignments are a minimum of 12 weeks in length
Most volunteer roles require 3-4 hours per week, plus travel time (if any)
Some roles are in-person, some are in-home, in a facility or remote

Volunteer Programs at VHA

Volunteers in the Out and About Seniors Escort Support service help seniors stay active, connected, and healthy by providing safe escort support to medical appointments, therapy visits, community activities and workshops. Volunteers are available at least once per week for 4 hours on a weekday and are available to volunteer for 24 weeks. The Out and About program serves vulnerable seniors in Toronto Central.

What to expect after applying to volunteer

After you applying, VHA's Volunteer team will review your information and get in touch about opportunities that match your interest and availability. Here is what to expect next:

Submit an application and resume
Resume review to determine eligibility
Phone screening to learn more about the applicant's interests, experience, and suitability for the role
Formal volunteer interview
Submission of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (less than 6 months old) and two supervisory references
Completion of role-specific training at the VHA main office
Volunteer placement and ongoing support
