VOLUNTEER

We provide an environment where volunteers are engaged, challenged and rewarded. If you’re looking for a hands-on volunteer opportunity with a leader in community health and want to make a positive difference in people’s lives, you belong at VHA. Volunteering is a commitment which includes:

  • Training and ongoing support provided
  • Assignments are a minimum of 12 weeks in length
  • Most volunteer roles require 3-4 hours per week, plus travel time (if any)
  • Some roles are in-person, some are in-home, in a facility or remote

VHA has many volunteer programs looking for volunteers. Already know you’re interested in becoming a volunteer? Scroll down to our sign up form.

Volunteers visit a care facility in east Toronto weekly, for 3 hours, to offer social engagement and / or entertainment for frail seniors.

As a peer support for moms, Child and Family Support volunteers help support new moms, experiencing multiple stresses and isolation. Volunteers act as a resource to families providing them the means to discover and connect with social supports in their community and to make positive changes in their lives. Volunteers work with families in their homes and interact with infants and toddlers (aging from newborns to 4 years old) along with moms.

Volunteers visit clients weekly for 3 hours to provide support as clients declutter their homes to create safe, functional spaces. We take a harm-reduction approach and use motivational interviewing to guide the decluttering process.

PPE Delivery volunteers pick-up PPE at VHA and deliver it to front-line healthcare staff and service providers at various locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Good Neighbours Enroute volunteers shop and deliver essential items for vulnerable clients and families, who have limited to no supports.

This program is only offered in the fall.

Volunteers support VHA nurses as they visit vulnerable areas and go door-to-door to offer flu vaccinations.

Coming soon – Anticipated start dates in early 2022.

Volunteers will help maintain and promote the physical, emotional and cognitive well-being of vulnerable seniors with dementia living at home. Volunteers also help by caring for vulnerable seniors and offering respite time for caregivers.
