Celebrating the impact of women at VHA and across the world: International Women’s Day.

March 8th is International Women’s Day – a day that both celebrates the ongoing contributions of women around the globe as well as advocates for a gender equal world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
2026 marks this awareness day’s 115th anniversary and while tremendous advancements have been made, gender parity issues are still all too frequent around the globe.in our society.
This year’s theme is and emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. It encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration reminding us that where when women thrive, we all rise.
VHA is proud to be a women-led organization. 90% of our care providers identify as women and 72% of managers and supervisors are women leaders. We are deeply committed to supporting and building up women across VHA through a variety of programs and endeavours. Internally, our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Impact Report tracks our progress and commitment to continually foster a culture of inclusion. Externally, our advocacy is backed by evidence-based research for issues such as wage parity for home care PSWs, a career widely dominated by both women and equity-deserving communities. In celebration of this day, we asked a few of our team members to share why International Women’s Day is important to them and here’s what they had to say:
International Women’s Day is meaningful to me because it underscores the power of generosity, collaboration, and allyship in shaping an inclusive workplace. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” reflects my belief that when we share our time, knowledge, and support, we create opportunities that extend far beyond our individual roles. Each time I uplift another woman—through mentorship, encouragement, or simply being present—I gain a new perspective, stronger connections, and a deeper sense of purpose. Today reminds us that progress is not a solo journey; it is something we build together. When every woman feels seen, supported, and valued, we all rise.
– Hemjot Mal, Senior Director, Strategic Solutions and Partnerships
As a woman, International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and achievements of the women who came before me and paved the way for greater opportunities. It inspires me to honor my own journey while continuing to push for equality, respect, and opportunities for women and girls everywhere. To me, this day is not just a celebration, but a call to uplift one another and stand confidently in our worth.
– Neetu Kumar, Occupational Therapist
On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and compassion of women everywhere. As physiotherapists, we live the true spirit of “Give to Gain.” Every time we give our knowledge, care, and healing hands to restore movement and confidence, we gain trust, purpose, and the joy of making a difference. Empowering women’s health is not just our profession — it is our commitment to building stronger families, healthier communities, and a better future. Happy International Women’s Day! 💜
– Rushita Patel, Physiotherapist
As a Rehab Supervisor in community-based care, I’m inspired daily by the empathy and strength of the women on our frontline who care for clients in their homes while balancing many roles of their own. I see firsthand how powerful it is when we intentionally give time, guidance, and advocacy to support women stepping into their roles and expanding their clinical excellence. As a leader, I believe growth happens through generosity—sharing knowledge, creating opportunity, and collaborating intentionally. Creating safe spaces where women feel heard, valued, and supported is essential to that growth. Supporting women isn’t just about equity – it’s about honoring the strength and compassion they bring to every space they enter.
– Punita Laurier, Rehab Supervisor, Best Practice

International Women’s Day in my life is very valuable. It reminds me to appreciate the strength, love, and sacrifices of every woman who shape my beautiful life. For me, International Women’s Day is not just a date — it is a reminder of gratitude, empowerment, and hope. 💜
– Chandrika Desai, Physiotherapist
International Women’s day is important to me as it celebrates resilience & quiet strength of women.
It honours not just the women who lead boardrooms but also the women who lead at home, shaping hearts & building dreams.
– Charishma Monga, Physiotherapist
International Women’s Day causes me to reflect on the incredible women at VHA Home Care who are inspiring leaders in the community and skillful home care specialists. I see firsthand the dedication, empathy, and strength they bring to their work each day, and the difference they make in the lives of the families we support. The theme “Give to Gain” reminds me that even small actions matter — giving encouragement, sharing knowledge, creating space, advocating for fairness. Those actions can open doors for someone else, and in return, we gain growth, perspective, and progress together as women.
