Heart of Home Care

Heart of Home Care

In 2005, VHA launched an award to recognize the extraordinary efforts and often unacknowledged efforts of unpaid caregivers - the family, friends of people living with chronic disability and disease. The Heroes in the Home Award was born to commemorate VHA’s 80th anniversary and honour unpaid family members and friends in Ontario who provided extraordinary home care to their loved ones.

The awards were renamed Heart of Home Care Awards in 2011.

VHA's Heart of Home Care Awards not only provided recognition to these unsung heroes, but also gave them a reason to celebrate how special they are. Seeking nominations from across the province, each winner and nominee was invited to attend a special day in Toronto which included a luncheon and an invitation to our public Heart of Home Care Awards ceremony event on National Caregiver Day in April. At the event, the winners would share their heartfelt stories through videos created in collaboration with VHA and they would be presented with their award.

VHA Home HealthCare's Heart of Home Care Awards took place annually from 2005-2021.
