The Heart of Home Care Award will be presented to Baylee Levy to celebrate her unwavering commitment to caring for her 24-year-old son Sar Levy. Sar was not only born with cystic fibrosis and cerebral palsy, but also contracted a rare form of meningitis as a baby that left him unable to speak. Despite all of Sar's health challenges, Baylee remains overwhelmingly positive about their journey together, calling Sar "an inspiration, a gift, and a great blessing."
Prior to the award presentation, Dr. Sholom Glouberman, founder of Patients' Association of Canada (PAC), Philosopher in Residence at Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, and author of My Operation: A Health Insider Becomes a Patient will give a compelling talk on the patients' perspective and how we can better hear their voices to influence and improve the health care system.
The Heart of Home Care Award (formerly Heroes in the Home Award) was founded in 2005 to recognize the extraordinary efforts of a friend or family member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide a loved one who is disabled, elderly or chronically ill with the support needed to live at home.
