Newborn Assistance
Life as a first-time parent or as the mom or dad of a multiple birth can be overwhelming. VHA’s services ease the pressure, helping moms and dads overcome the challenges of the first few weeks after childbirth and build confidence in their parenting skills.
Nursing support includes:
- Post-birth education and care such as nutrition, breastfeeding and post-birth stress management
- Post-caesarean section care
- Episiotomy care
- Postpartum counselling
VHA's home service providers and personal support workers can help with:
- Child care support and parent relief
- Personal care activities such as bathing and dressing
- Light housekeeping
- Meal planning and preparation
- Laundry
In-home and School Support for Special Needs Children
VHA staff is trained to work with children who have acute or chronic medical conditions. Our at-home and/or at-school support includes assistance with:
- Tube feedings
- Infusion pumps
- Tracheotomy care
- Intravenous medications
Crisis Support
VHA offers subsidized, short-term childcare and homemaking services for families lacking outside support and facing crisis situations such as:
- A single parent coping with a serious physical or mental illness
- A parent of a special needs or ill child who needs help caring for his/her other children
- Children who are at risk of abuse because of family stress
