Our Nurses

“VHA is a dynamic organization. We have changed and grown into a significant healthcare agency with a huge nursing program and robust personal support program.”
Deborah Simon, Vice-President & Chief Nursing Officer

What’s so special about VHA Home HealthCare? Our nurses.

With more than 300 nurses serving clients in southern Ontario, VHA Home HealthCare is seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) for full-time, part-time and casual positions. We also have employment opportunities for new graduates and nursing students.

VHA nurses deliver one-on-one home and community-based services to a range of clients in a variety of areas, including:

  • Palliative care
  • Pediatric care
  • Wound care
  • Infusion therapy and
  • Family respite

Nursing Options:
As one size does not fit all, we offer two nursing options:

VHA Shift Nurses—spend a set amount of time with clients and may provide a range of nursing care. Shifts are often longer than three hours and up to 12 hours.

VHA Visiting Nurses–provide care—such as IV therapy, wound care, dressings or teaching clients and families various procedures—as needed to help clients become independent. Visit times depend on the type of care needed.

VHA nurses are:

  • Caring
  • Committed to improving clients’ lives
  • Flexible
  • Able to travel within the GTA
  • Diverse—we welcome nurses who speak more than one language to enhance care to the culturally diverse clients we serve

A Supportive Workplace

Our reputation for excellent client service is based on our strong nurse-patient relationships and supportive workplace. As a VHA nurse, you’ll always have easy and quick access to our Clinical Practice Teams. Because your wage is based on time spent with patients, VHA also tries to minimize travel by assigning you clients who live close to one another.

Training and Mentoring

VHA offers professional supervision and mentoring programs to help you learn new techniques and procedures or adjust to a new setting. We also provide training opportunities in many areas including:

  • Pediatrics
  • Chronic disease management
  • Infusion therapy
  • Tracheotomy and ventilator care
  • Advanced wound care
  • End-of-life care

VHA nurses are paid for orientation and for participating in our Preceptor-Mentor program. We can help you finance specialized education, find appropriate courses and arrange work schedules around course hours. Upon course completion, VHA will try to help apply the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through real-world experience.

Wages and Benefits

We offer competitive wages that:

  • Recognize additional certifications
  • Offer a great benefits plan
  • Respect your desire for work-life balance and value your needs

If you’d like to develop closer relationships with patients, take on more responsibility for patient care and build a rewarding career, you belong at VHA.
